If you’re planning a trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia, chances are Peggy’s Cove is already on your itinerary. And while the iconic lighthouse is worth the visit, there’s another local experience you shouldn’t miss: a seriously incredible lobster roll.
If you’re wondering where to eat at Peggy’s Cove or searching for the best lobster roll near Halifax, this is absolutely the one I’d recommend.
Packed with fresh local Nova Scotia lobster, this classic roll from Hunky Dory is topped with a bright lemon aioli, crisp celery, fresh chives, and dill (the trifecta, if you ask me for the perfect lobster roll). Everything is piled into a buttery toasted potato bun and somehow manages to hold together despite the generous amount of lobster. Honestly…just look at it.
Why should you trust my opinion? Well I come from a long line of lighthouse keepers and lobster fishermen, so I definitely don’t take lobster rolls lightly.
I’ve also eaten my fair share over the years. This classic lobster roll checks every box for me: fresh, simple, perfectly balanced, and it lets the local lobster be the star.
But don’t skip the fries. The crispy, salty crinkle fries are the perfect sidekick to the rich, buttery lobster roll. And if you’re not into lobster, I know gasp, they offer other items such as smash burgers, so basically there’s something for everyone.
One of the best parts? You can enjoy it before or after spending time walking the granite shoreline and taking in the breathtaking views of Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse (for your safety just stay off the black rocks please).
If you’re planning a trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia be sure to include Peggy’s Cove
and Hunky Dory on your itinerary! Trust me, a lighthouse and a lobster roll?
Doesn’t get much more Nova Scotian than that.
Few experiences feel more quintessentially Nova Scotian than pairing one of Canada’s most famous lighthouses with fresh Atlantic lobster!
If you’re visiting Halifax, I highly recommend making a day trip to Peggy’s Cove and adding Hunky Dory to your itinerary: it’s such a lovely way to spend the afternoon.
Adjacent, is also a café, Margarets known for their amazing chowder, as well as Holy Mackerel, a super cute gift shop. Honestly you can cover a lot of ground in one visit which makes Peggy’s Cove a must visit while in Nova Scotia!
