Tough Act

Photographed at Dalhousie University (my old stomping grounds); it was pretty obvious how much I have changed since graduating 3 years ago. It’s amazing how a space can appear to have changed so much, but in actuality it really hasn’t changed at all because really it’s you. These buildings used to fill me with such anxiety, and curiosity at the same time, now they bring back familiar memories of success and lessons learned. When these photos were taken (just a few weeks back) this campus was like a graveyard, as you read this post today it is now full of new hopefuls with budding ambitions.

For the shoot with Matt I opted for a classic look: jeans, white t-shirt, and paired it with a black leather jacket and a punk inspired arm party. Traditionally I seem to lean towards the more “cute” or preppy style, but as I’ve been getting older I feel like I am starting to gravitate towards more harder hitting New York inspired “street style” fashions.  If you would have asked me 3 years ago if I would be blogging about leather jackets, or taking photos with noted photographers in the city, I would have thought you were eight shades of crazy. It’s interesting sometimes where life takes you.

There’s something about a
leather jacket that gives me that extra little bit of confidence; I’m
not sure how to explain it really, but for some reason it unleashes my
inner rock star, and I feel like I can take on the world. Laugh, please
by all means I find this as funny as you do, but in all seriousness I do
think that clothing can seriously affect how you feel. Whether it’s
pretty, flirty, intellectual (see elbow patches and a pipe), daring or
just plain happy to be a girl; certain clothing can affect your
feelings,mood, and emotions.

What’s neat is that the feelings can be different for every person 🙂 so maybe you find confidence in your latest tattoo, or your naughty little nighty; it doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy it, and so you should. We put so much emphasis on the size and shape of our bodies and “can I pull this off” or not, and I say absolutely you can just find what works for you and own it.

I’m not saying that you
should ever be something that you’re not because it won’t work. I
would suggest, however, being brave in your wardrobe choices. There are SO many glorious items of clothing out there to wear and be worn, (Pinterest can attest to this), and we should be having fun, not worrying about this or that. “If it feels good do it” and if it feels awkward most likely it looks awkward! Figure out what works for you and go for it!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in all my years, it’s that life is too short to not live your life exactly as you please.

Happy Friday Blog Readers,
Much love to you
Sincerely
