Mom’s Biscuits

What is it about moms and bread products? They always seem to know how to make the perfect loaf of bread and the perfect batch of biscuits. Is there something that happens when you give birth that spikes your baking skills? Seems to me there is.

I know they say “mothers know best” and as much as I hate to admit, in this case it’s true. Here is a recipe for fool proof biscuits. Now I must warn you I’ve wronged many a biscuit recipes, and I actually pulled this one off. Two mistakes that people often make with biscuits are: your oven isn’t hot enough, and you left your baking powder sit too long.

To ensure biscuit success:

“always make sure you oven is really hot before the biscuits go in, and
give your baking powder a good stir before you add it into the mixture”.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar (or splenda)
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 egg + milk to make 1 cup

Directions
Preheat oven 450 degrees
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut shortening in until mixture has a fine crumb texture. Stir in egg/milk mixture with a fork to make a soft dough. Knead 8 to 10 times, and then roll out to a thickness of at least 1/2 inch. Cut into rounds with a cookie or biscuit cutter. Place on cookie sheet, and allow to rest for a few minutes.
Bake for 15-20 minutes

Happy Belated Mother’s Day to all wonderful mothers, grandmothers, and mother’s to be.

sincerely,
