PUERTO PLATA DOMINICAN REPUBLIC VISUAL + VIDEO DIARY

Crystal clear ocean, lush green mountain ranges, deliciously diverse food, and amazingly friendly people: Puerto Plata really does have it all. Did I mention the warm sun??

Recently I had the absolute pleasure of being invited to visit Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. I’d been before, but it was nearly 10 years ago so I was more than eager to go back. And with Winter knocking on our door I was ready to make any excuse to enjoy a little more sun before the cold creeps back into Halifax.

Instead of telling you about our trip how about I show you. Below is a video diary from my most recent visit to Puerto Plata, as well as some photos of me from my shoot with Montreal Photogragher @David_Maman. I met David at one of the social events on the trip, and he was so kind as to pop over to my resort the morning before I was flying out to take some photos of me.

WHERE WE STAYED

As you can see from the video and photos above our resort was nothing short of spectacular. Newly opened, this past December, VH Atmosphere, an Adult-Only Resort and Beach Club is styled to per-fect-ion. Around every single corner is another Instagram opportunity. So much so we may have gone a little overboard with photos (if there’s such a thing).

All-inclusive, VH Atmosphere offers a plethora of amenities: full buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner (also options later at night too) served in the El Lago dining area, a beautiful infinity pool, pool bar, coffee shop, multi-level gym, and a games room.

In addition to the delicious options at the buffet, which is open various periods throughout the day and night, there are two restaurants (International and Italian) on site, both of which are styled impeccably of course, and the food is on par with anything I’ve experienced at a fine dining restaurant in Halifax or Toronto. We both enjoyed a steak dinner at the Italian restaurant and literally ate EVERY single bite.

Accommodations at VH Atmosphere vary from: The Garden Room, Superior Rooms (with balcony) , Junior Suites with Royal package (ideal for guests on a romantic escape or group vacation), as well as Honeymoon suites that offer a grand terrace complete with a Jacuzzi. You can read more about VH Atmosphere accommodations here.

Upgrade options are also available, so you can enjoy a private pool area, as well as access to the vintage bar which is absolutely stunning btw and offers international drinks. VH Atmosphere also offers spa and golf packages as well. You can learn more about their special offers by clicking here.

WHERE WE ATE

We ate A LOT at the resort, I mean was DELICIOUS and they really had SO much to offer, but in the interest of taking in as much as possible to share with you lovelies we also had the pleasure of visiting their sister resort Casa Colonial. Casa Colonial is a boutique hotel (not an inclusive) we ordered (off their menu) a little bit of everything, and felt very at home with the tuna tartare, and avocado toast. Probably one of the best meals I’ve actually ever had. We of course tried some of the local dishes too which were also amazing.

On the first evening we were in Puetro Plata we ventured to Cabarete to dine on the beach, and it was nothing short of magical.

Cabarete is a resort town on the Dominican Republic’s northern coast. Cabarete Bay is protected by a coral reef. The calm waters, combined with breezy conditions on beaches like Cabarete and Kite, make it a center for water sports.

We had dinner at La Casita de Papi, and enjoyed their specialty, “langoustine” dish with Papi’s sauce & linguine, and it was DELICIOUS! Definitely would highly recommend. It’s no surprise it’s their signature dish it had such a complex flavor profile, but still one that felt super familiar. OMG thinking out it now I really wish I was eating it for lunch today lol. If you’re in the area you should definitely check it out. The open style kitchen really allows you to experience and see the intensity of cooking in such an environment, and dining on the beach with live music, the rolling waves really is pure magic and how you should experience Puerto Plata.

WHAT WE DID

While I wish we were able to stay longer we were only in Puerto Plata for 3 nights (we had to get back for thanksgiving) we really did a lot in a short period of time. Luckily I had my good friend Allie with me, and she was such a pleasure to travel with! She eats anything, is up for anything, so we really just had the most fun together.

We took in as much as we could at our resort, we toured the neighboring resort Casa Colonial, as well as attended a few of the Discover Puerto Plata events which were super fun! In addition, to the events we did a city tour, and rode the cable car to take in the best view of the city. If you’re heading to Puerto Plata definitely check out their website to learn more about the various excursions you can do! As always I highly recommend you venture off your resort and take in the city. You can talk to your travel agent ahead of time, book at your resort the VH Atmosphere has an office onsite that can help you plan whatever you want to do, as well you can check out the GoDomRep website.

I just want to say a huge thank you to Discover Dominican Republic for inviting me to experience everything Puerto Plata, from the amazing food, and culture. I really can’t wait to come back again VERY soon.

Hope you enjoyed today’s post

xx

Oh my gosh! Such beautiful photos. Looks like you had an amazing time. I’ve actually never been to the Carribean but it looks like such a dream. Maybe Allie and I should add it to our bucket list!
