OCEANSTONE SEASIDE RESORT TAKE TWO W/ VIDEO DIARY

Blanketed in white, everything is covered in snow. The air it is calm, and the day is ours. There’s something about the long weekend in February that just brings out the most magical weather making it the perfect opportunity to make our way out of the city.

There’s a stillness to winter that relaxes me, and brings my feet back down to reality, and reminds me that it’s so important to take a break. And what better place to do so than the beautiful beach front cottages at Oceanstone.

Located just outside the city, Oceanstone is the best spot for a staycation. Minutes away from Peggy’s Cove the rugged coast, the crisp clean air, allows all your stress to melt away. It’s impossible not to be happy in a place like this.

ABOUT OCEANSTONE

Having been a destination for yoga retreats for many many years back in the 70s, Oceanstone is dripping with zen. Rooted in it’s history, relaxation is Oceanstone’s claim to fame. And let me tell you, it’s knows how to deliver.

While Oceanstone has changed over the years, adding buildings and structures here and there, one things remains the same: it’s commitment to preserving the land, and making every stay the best experience ever.

Just take a peek at these photos, I didn’t retouch them at all. This is Oceanstone in it’s raw, untouched glory, as it should be.

Featured above, the Captain’s house, and just check out that view! I mean it doesn’t get any better than this.

ABOUT OUR STAY

This was our second time staying in the Captain’s House, and having been before it felt like a home away from home. We even noticed some fresh updates (Travis was convinced that the house had new windows while I noted all the little decor updates (which were adorbs btw). Because we knew where everything was, we quickly unpacked and settled into some cozies.

And popped open some proseccco of course! We love to unplug while we’re at Oceanstone, so we always bring books, magazines, and of course the crib board.

Travis and I both work our tails off 95% of the time, and we’re not the best at making time for ourselves, so getting out of the city and away from the hustle and bustle really is a must both for our relationship, and our sanity. Y’all might not know this, but my boyfriend (also my handy dandy blog photographer) is a smarty pants Chartered Accountant who actually just recently won an amazing award for all his hard work in his company, so cheers to you babe!! You’re killin’ it.

And bless his heart because he also super handy! I’d probably burn the place down if I tried to light the wood stove.

DINNER + DESSERT AT THE RHUBARB

In addition to the cottages and lovely accommodations, Oceanstone is also proud to partner with Jim and Diane Buckle owner operators of the cozy seaside Rhubarb Restaurant.

Located on site, The Rhubarb Restaurant is the perfect spot for a date night while staying at Oceanstone. It’s something we always look forward to. With everything from fish and chips to burgers and pizza to gourmet special features the Rhubarb really has something for everyone. So whether you just want to indulge in a great classic burger made with a in-house bun, or you want to go full-on with an elevated dining experience you can do so here.

I had the absolute pleasure of enjoying the Chef’s Tasting Menu complete with a charcuterie board, Thai coconut soup and ceasar salad, and Rosemary lamb with seasoned vegetables. While I forgot to take a photo of the charcuterie board (catch it in the video) it was exceptionally well done. We really loved the rhubarb chutney, so much so I meant to check to see if they sold it because I really wanted to also bring some home with me (it’s was that DELISH). I’m not sure if they offer it for purchase, but if they do you should scoop some up to take home.

Everything was great, we really enjoyed our meal, but even more so we loved that we didn’t need to plan anything, and we could just walk from our cottage up to the restaurant. I mean it’s doesn’t get any easier than this.

Dessert Under The Stars

One of the things that I noticed about Oceanstone and The Rhubarb is that the staff here really go above and beyond. You can really tell that they absolutely love what they do, and really care about their guests’ experiences. Both the resort and the resto are continuously upping their game, and it’s just amazing to see the level of care and detail in everything they do.

Enjoying our dessert under the stars was absolutely the highlight of our Oceanstone trip, and something that we will never forget. Holy moly it was an experience. I mean if you’re going to embrace winter, this is how you do it!! Curious how they came up with the concept I asked Diane what inspired her: “I kept looking out at this beautiful fire pit that was never being used, and I just thought I want to do something special”. Diane suggested that she wanted to take advantage of the lack of fire bans during the winter which are so common during the summer months (for obvious reasons).

While I was nervous that I would be cold, it was actually great! I brought some things in a bag to dinner: hat, mittens, extra pair of socks, and a big cozy sweater to layer over my blouse. I was determined to not be cold and just enjoy the experience, but I was actually fine. Diane set out a few blankets for us, and we were close enough to the fire that it was nice and cozy.

We enjoyed a salted caramel dessert, and hot coffee and rum with whip cream under the stars, in front of a roaring crackling fire. I mean, is there anything more romantic in the whole entire world?

The Rhubarb is offering their dessert under the stars on Saturdays, so be sure to call the resto to reserve your spot! You don’t want to miss out on this amazing experience.

From suites to cottages to guest rooms, Oceanstone has so much to offer. As mentioned above we stayed in the Captains house, the largest of the cottages this two-level cottage sleeps 8, has two bathrooms, and a full kitchen! So naturally we had to take some photos in every room.

With windows that wrap around the big blue house the natural light, and view of the ocean are just absolutely stunning. We slept downstairs in the coziest king size bed, and even with the windows closed we could still hear the ocean. And let me tell you, there’s nothing better than falling asleep being lulled by the sound of the ocean and a crackling wood stove. We slept like babies.

Having stayed at Oceanstone a few times now I can honestly tell you that it just gets better with each visit! There’s something about this place that just puts us at ease, and leaves us always wanting more. I’m beginning to think that our February getaways at Oceanstone might become a tradition for us.

Thanks so much to the lovely staff at Oceanstone y’all are actually just the most amazing people! We had the best time, and can’t wait to do it all over again soon.

If you have any questions be sure to pop over to the Oceanstone Website, and their staff would be happy to answer your questions! They book up fast (for obvious reasons), so don’t delay.

Likewise, if you have any questions about the resto pop over to the Rhubarb Website, and book a dessert under the stars trust me you won’t stop talking about it.

xx

We stayed in the Captains Cottage too! It was such an amazing experience. It looks like you two had an amazing time unwinding. It is so important to unplug and really connect with loved ones every once and a while.
