THE CONVERSATION STARTER

“Where did you get your sunglasses?”. “WHERE did you get that shirt?” – When your sunnies are this fabulous and you’re also wearing a BLOGGER sweater: you better believe people are stopping you to ask.  Whether it’s on my Instagram stories, or in person these sunglasses are a conversation starter (along with this sweater but we’ll get to that in a minute).

The truth is I’ve been coveting the Celine Audrey Sunglasses (which I got from Smartbuy Glasses) for a really long time. Breakfast at Tiffany’s is such a classic film, and I adore Audrey Hepburn’s style (on and off camera).

From menswear-inspired pieces to classic black and white to flats this girl knew what was up. Audrey (because I like to think we are on a first name basis) was all about comfort, but she still always looked tres chic.

She was petite, and still confidently wore slacks and even flats (which was very faux pas at the time). The thing is though and the lesson to be learned here is that: she owned it. I try to remind myself of this when people try to impose their “fashion rules” on me.

One of my favorite lines and one I like to recite quite frequently is when character Holly Golightly says “Gracious. Do you think she’s handsomely paid?”. I can’t even tell you what it is about this line, but it kills me every time. Despite the fact that I hate that she’s smoking (I hate smoking in general) I love (a) that she’s wearing her sunglasses inside like she doesn’t want to people to see her participating is such activities during the light of day, and (b) she removes them to get a better look. Hilarious. That little scandal.

Inspired by the icon herself, The Celine Audrey sunnies are everything oversized I’ve ever wanted and more. I love them so much. I should mention I opted for the polarized version, so not only are they wonderfully fabulous they are also functional.

Did you know? Polarized sunglasses offer the maximum protection for your eyes and it’s actually encouraged by Optometrists that you wear them year round.

What are Polarized Sunglasses?

“When sunlight is reflected off of water, snow, windshields, passing cars, and other bright surfaces, it causes visual noise or a glare. Light travels in all directions and standard sunglasses filter light equally, yet polarized lenses filter the light selectively and absorb light waves from various angles, while also protecting against harmful UV rays.
The reflections from horizontal surfaces are blocked by the lens molecules and light enters the eye vertically. You only see the real image because the interfering glare is diminished. For example, you’re enjoying a sunny afternoon on a fishing excursion. When you look down at the water, you see the sky, trees, and other surroundings reflected off of the surface, making it extremely difficult to actually see into the water. If you’re wearing polarized lenses, these reflections are blocked. Instead of staring at your own face mirrored in the water, you can view what’s under the water”.

So cool right??? I think Audrey was on to something.

“Oh my god you have to see this sweater” I haul out my phone to show my friend a screenshot I had on my phone. “It’s from the kid’s section at Walmart, but you have to see it”. I find the image saved on my phone and hand it to my friend. She then returns the phone to me and laughs, and says “Ummm yeah you don’t need that”.

This was a couple months before Christmas, but she’d already purchased the sweater for me lol and I totally ruined the surprise. However, you can imagine my excitement because I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS SWEATER. And the fact that it’s from the kid’s section at Walmart just made it even better.

On the topic of conversation starters, this sweater was definitely a hit at Toronto Women’s Fashion week if not for the conversations it spiked alone. I’m not really the type to wear big logos or graphic tees, but this one it just so fun I couldn’t resist.

There’s something about fashion week (which brings out all the bloggers) that is so inspiring and refreshing. I love my job don’t get me wrong, but having other people to talk about with? There’s nothing better. Fashion week has always been the best time to catch up with my favorite folks in the PR industry, of course, the designer (I mean that’s why we are there- read this post about the top 10 trends from TWFW), and of course my fellow bloggers.

Fashion week is almost like a little reunion, and while not all of it was positive this time around (read more about that here) the good definitely outweighed the bad.

Hope you enjoyed today’s post! Again I was freezing my butt off during fashion week, but this look was arguably the most comfortable of the three days. Those gap trousers are so soft they feel like pjs, and that fluffy sweater was everything. Top is off with my Celine sunnies and you’re good to go. I have to say  I was very happy with my outfit choice.

Thanks to my very talented friend Denis Duquette for these photos!
