Ascenta Skin: A Review

They say beauty is skin deep, but I would argue that goes even further than that. Beauty isn’t just about having beach blonde hair and long legs (as gorgeous as that is); true beauty is exemplified with a glowing personality, and a kind heart and I would also argue that how our bodies appear on the outside is directly related to what we are putting into them.

I have struggled with adult acne since the onset of my university career, with all the stress that comes with being an adult, while attending school, and working I put my body and skin through the ringer. I’ve basically tried everything you can image to help remedy my skin, but now as I get older I realize that it’s not all about the creams and topical solutions it’s also about what you put into your body that matters.

Applying creams and lotions to your skin is great (don’t stop doing this), but it really is only a band-aid fix, and usually only lasts so long as you are using that product and/or until your skin develops a tolerance to the medication. Like most things in my life I like to treat ailments naturally, and I believe eating a good diet, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep and water is very important. However, even sometimes after all that our body still needs things that it cannot produce itself.

Omega 3 is one of the supplements that I strongly suggest people educate themselves about. Our body and brain needs omega 3s, but does not produce it on its own, and therefore we need to supplement with either foods or nutritional supplements rich in omega 3s in order to get what we need. Although Omega 3 is great for your cognitive function, cardiovascular health, as well as encouraging weight loss, Omega 3 is also great for your skin!

You should know that I am in no way shape or form affiliated with this company. I was simply given the product to try, and I never felt any pressure to do anything but that. I tried the product before reading anything about it; I wanted to see what I noticed myself before I learned what was “supposed” to happen. If you are concerned as to whether the product is safe, there is actually a code on every label that you can use to look it up the product to learn more about the products that is in it! People who have nothing to hide, hide nothing right?

What I love love love about the Ascenta Skin product is that it contains high potency of DHA and EHA, but also it contains Lutein, and Vitamin D. Taking these ingredients are said to help

  • Improve elasticity
  • Increase Firmness
  • Restore Skin Tone
  • Enhance Hydration
  • Fight UV Damage
  • Reduce Roughness
  • Reduce Redness

I started taking this supplement just when I started working a very stressful full time job, and also accepted to plan and style a charity fashion show while also managing to attend 5 dance classes a week, and of course maintaining my blog and style panel responsibilities. I am at best a very busy person, but adding the fashion show preparations into the mix was just bonkers. I cannot remember a time that I have been that stressed, but you would never know that from my skin.

At a time when I should have been completely covered with breakouts, I actually noticed a very healthy glow to my skin and an overall significant reduction in redness. For whatever reason I always used to have a lot of redness around my nose, and in the space between the apples of my cheeks and my nose, but after a few weeks of using the product I found I needed less and less makeup as the weeks progressed.

I also noticed that my skin was less dry which is pretty impressive given that I was taking this supplement smack dab in the heart of Winter. I even noticed that the little red bumps I used to get on the upper parts of my arms had actually vanished. I’m serious I’ve tried so many varieties of scrubs/concoctions to remedy the redness on my arms, but nothing really worked before. I have to say I was pretty impressed.

I also take comfort in the fact that it helps fight UV damage. I wear sunscreen all year round on my face, but do I rarely remember to put in on my hands and/or chest in the winter. I obviosuly am not going to stop wearing an SPF, but I really like the fact that I have a little back up with this oral supplement.

The photo below is a most recent photo of my skin taken last weekend. Yes I am wearing makeup, but not nearly as much as I used to. And there really is a difference in how my makeup is sitting on my face compared to before. I never edit my photos mostly because I just don’t have the time, and also because I am Photoshop illiterate, so you can take comfort in knowing that this photo is completely untouched.

Overall I have to say that I was very pleased with the product, and will be sad when it is gone. I’ve been taking the supplement in the morning as it was suggested to me that it works best with some food in your stomach. I will warn you as I was warned that the product is highly pigmented in color, and so anything you spill this product on is stained indefinitely. A few of my kitchen towels will attest to this. I made sure to take the supplement while leaning over the kitchen sink (product needs to be refrigerated), as to make sure I didn’t ruin any of my blouses before heading to work. In retrospect I really should have taken the supplement before I got dressed in the morning, but let’s just say that my thinking cap isn’t necessarily on at 530am.

The product is pomegranate flavor and so it doesn’t taste like you a sucking out the contents of a tuna can. The taste was really a non-issue for me, as the flavor was not one that bothered me in the least. Even if you are a big baby and the taste/texture did bother you, you could always toss it in a smoothie or orange juice or something. But note if you do take the supplement with something else just make sure to drink the entirety of the liquid you mixed it with in order to get the products full affect. It is suggested that you should take 1 tsp a day.

As much as I was a mess stress wise, you couldn’t see any of that on my skin. The best part about this supplement is that it is just as good for your overall health and it is for your skin. You should think your outward appearance as a reflection of the inside, and if you take care of the inside, your body will look after the rest : D
