NATIONAL DARE DAY: START YOUR BLOG

how to start a blog

At least once a day someone messages me for advice on how to start a blog, and I’ll be honest I’ve noticed a pattern.

It starts out like this… I love your blog (you guys are so sweet), and I’ve been wanting to start my own forever.

As soon as I read that sentence I want to stop the person right there because this breaks my heart. We spend SO much time over thinking the things we want to do, that if we simply took all that time and energy and actually put in the work to achieve them we’d already be where we want to be.

Life doesn’t go in one direction, and when you go in a different direction (like f.a.b.!), that’s when the good stuff happens. In the spirit of their new bi-directional razor (yup you can shave forward and back) SO COOL (you can read more about it in this previous “Schick F.A.B. Razor Unboxing and Review Video Post“) Schick Intuition f.a.b. wants to dare you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new!

We need to tell the universe what we want by doing!

In this business people are always “going” to be doing something, or “wanting” to do something, or “wishing” they were doing something. Such is the way with creative endeavors, but here’s the deal tho, that’s not impressive. To do list’s aren’t impressive guys. You’re not going to put *thinking about starting a blog on resume*.

I always say I’m so much more impressed by the things people are doing, rather than what they are going to do.

Stop telling people what you’re going to do, and show them what you ARE doing instead. Action, action, action. I know this sounds like a silly concept, but I’m serious it’s time. It’s been time guys, people come to me all the time after months and months of rumination and here’s the thing: you can’t know until you start.

TAKE THE PLUNGE

It’s really interesting how when you take that first step things just fall into place, and I really truly believe this to be true with blogging. The best advice I can give you is to START YOUR BLOG. Much like I mentioned above, we all need to stop talking about the things we’re going to do because that’s a waste of time and energy, and actually just do the things we’ve set out to do.

YOU WILL FIGURE IT OUT AS YOU GO

There’s something about that sink or swim approach that really rings true to me (especially when it comes to blogging). Sure you’ll have questions, but there’s also an expansive amount of information available at your fingertips (it’s called the internet), and I promise you, you’ll figure it out as you go. Sure you might suck (I know I still do), but hey

The only way to get good at something is to actually do it. I can give you advice all day long, but it’s no good to you if you’re not up to your elbows in it already.

FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY

You can only regret not trying. And you really owe it to yourself and your happiness to at least try!

This is kind of mantra I use on the daily. I fully maintain there’s no difference between me and anyone else, I’m shaking in my boots just as much as the next guy, but I always say I want the things more than I care about the experience. Say for instance, you’re going on a trip, flying on an airplane is a necessary means to get to that sunny destination, so sure you’re going to suffer through the long wait times, that annoying person next to you on a plane, packing a bag blah blah blah, all to get to all those sunset views, and sandy toes.

I want you to think about fear the same way, it’s a necessary means to get you where you want to go, and where you want to be!

SAY YES AND FIGURE THE REST OUT LATER

You clearly want this, you’re actively seeking out people to push you in the right direction, so how about just saying yes, and seeing what happens?? What the worst that can happen? You have a blog for a hot second, and it’s no longer something you’re passionate about?? Gosh if I had a dollar for every person I knew who used to blog, I’d be BALLIN’. Say yes to all the things you want, and I promise you that you won’t go wrong. Sure it’ll scare the living daylights out of you, but hey you’re no worse off than if you didn’t do anything at all.

Y’all know I went to school to be a teacher, and while I was 100% groomed for it, it just wasn’t the right fit for me. I knew there was another path for me.

I had a lit degree, I was a TA, a tutor, I worked at daycare, I volunteered for a literacy program at a local library, I taught dance. I DID EVERYTHING you were supposed to do, and sure I was great at it, but I didn’t love it like I was supposed to. SO I took another path, sure I worked my butt off working 8 jobs at once (I’m not going to tell you it’s all sunshine and rainbows), but I am I 100% here to tell you that if you put your heart into it, and you’re ruthless in your pursuit of whatever is it you want, you’ll get there.

The other day after doing a 5k with Shoppers I did a test to rate my mental health, and it turns out that it is “flourishing”. Flash back to my years in university I’m pretty confident that my mental health was anything but flourishing, but when you are stubborn in your pursuit of what sets your soul on fire how could you be anything but?? I love my job so so much (I mean it is a job so it has it’s ups and downs), but if we’re being honest here there’s nothing in the world I’d rather do than share this little corner of the internet with each and every one of you.

Y’all know I’m a Schick Ambassador, and recently they invited me to share my story about stepping in a new direction or when I tried something new and how doing this positively impacted my life, and guys: you’re it!!

You all impact my life so much, I’m just so happy to share everything and anything I know with each and every one of you. Your messages and comments mean the absolute world to me, and really motivate me to be the best I possibly can be!

On National Dare Day no less Schick also wants you to take the plunge and try something new, and to help you get started Schick is hosting a contest on the @SchickIntuitionCA Instagram page encouraging fans to tag a friend to complete a dare.

Every fan that tags and chooses a dare for their friend to complete, will be entered into a contest to win a $1,000 shopping spree and Schick® Intuition® f.a.b.™ prize pack. YESSSSS This is the best advice you can possibly give! I don’t know why people are so afraid to pull the trigger on blogging. The only thing holding people back is their own fear. Awesome post Kayla!! <3
