HOMEMADE HOT CHOCOLATE

homemade hot chocolate
I love hot chocolate, but I don’t like the idea of having it loaded with refined sugars, artificial sweeteners or preservatives. What are modified milk ingredients exactly? They sound scary enough to me, so I’m going to go ahead and avoid them. But what do you when all you’re craving is a hot cup of chocolate?

Text your only other health conscious friend for suggestions of course. After a conversation with a friend about where to find pre-made vegan hot chocolate mixes, and the lack there of,  I decided to get off my lazy butt and just make it myself. Turns out it’s actually just as easy as the pre-made stuff, and it’s a heck of a lot better (and for you).
With just a couple of ingredients and a microwave you can have your self a hot cup of cocoa in minutes. All you need is some almond milk, cocoa (good quality and dairy free if possible), and some stevia or coconut sugar! This is hardly a recipe, but if you’re curious of how to pull this off keep reading! This “recipe” is for a single serving.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup of almond milk
1 TBS cocoa powder
1 packet of stevia or coconut sugar to taste
DIRECTIONS
Using a microwave safe dish or mug heat your milk (about 1 min do not boil).
Over the cup of hot milk, strain the cocoa through a mini strainer (I use a mini sugar strainer).
Once strained use a hand held frothier to combine until lumps dissolve.
Stir in stevia or coconut sugar to sweeten, and enjoy!
This is just the basics so feel free to make it as fancy as you like by adding other ingredients. Feel free to experiment with adding brewed coffee (for cafe mocha), or peppermint extract for a peppermint hot chocolate. The possibilities are endless so go crazy!
Happy Tuesday!
