VIDEO RECIPE: TURKEY STUFFING BURGERS

Turkey burger with tomato and onion served with a side salad

With the May long weekend just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to do a burger post, also I just got my hands on the new Dempster’s® Deluxe Gold Buns, and OMG they are SO good!! Made in Canada with a commitment to simpler ingredients, they’re super soft and perfect for all your long weekend grilling. And while this long weekend is very different from those of the past, and we’re a little limited in how we can celebrate, it is kind of fun to do what we can to make it special right?? Bring the dining-out vibes home with these restaurant-style burger buns, pull a few simple ingredients together along with some fun toppings, and you’ll be ordering that chef hat in no time flat.

Whether you choose to make the recipe below, or opt for your regular go-to beef patties, these Gold Buns will turn any burger into a thing of beauty – seriously, just look at that glazed top! Plus, you asked and they listened, Dempster’s® products no longer contain Sodium Stearoyl-2-Lactylate or Acetylated Tartaric Acid Esters of Mono and Diglycerides. This is why you see the “Our Simplest Ingredients” badge on packages.  Dempster’s Deluxe Gold Buns are currently available locally at Sobeys (I got mine at the Windsor street location), as well as Walmart.

Okay now onto the recipe…

Turkey burger with tomato and onion served with a side salad

This recipe actually comes from my mom – I’m pretty sure she saw it on a Rachel Ray episode a zillion years ago. SO easy and only needing a few ingredients, it quickly became a repeat recipe while I was in uni. Now that I think about it, I’m surprised I haven’t blogged it already.

It’s a funny story about this recipe (don’t worry I’ll keep it brief). Travis and I actually ate these burgers on the very first night we moved in together. I’d made a batch at some point before moving, so they were in the freezer and they made the pilgrimage a few streets over to our new place. With all the hustle and bustle of moving from both our apartments (I’m pretty sure I had to work at the hospital that day) we were major zonked to say the least, and of course we kind of forgot to eat. We were also SO hungry that take out was just not an option because we needed food, and we needed it hours ago. Luckily, I remembered I had these Turkey Stuffing Burgers from my freezer, so amidst all the chaos of all boxes and furniture askew I managed to find a cookie sheet, and popped them into the oven. We ate them in middle of our new living room with our couch facing backwards toward the window. While this recipe is REALLY nostalgic for us, it’s still a recipe we make quite a bit because it’s so yummy, and just so freaking easy to toss together. You probably have most of the ingredients already!

 TURKEY STUFFING BURGERS

INGREDIENTS

1 egg, beaten

1⁄2 cup stuffing mix, crushed

1 tablespoon dried onion

1⁄4 cup chicken broth

1 package ground turkey

 (or chicken)

Remaining stuffing mix

DIRECTIONS

Pulse 1/2 cup of stuffing mix. I used my blender attachment to pulse the stuffing mix, but you could use a food processor, or even just dump it into a ziploc bag and use a rolling pin to break it down.

In bowl combine egg, broth, 1/2 cup pulsed stuffing mix, dried onion. Let stand for five minutes.

Add turkey and mix well. Then add the remaining stuffing mix. Combine.

I like to use a 1/2 cup measuring cup to portion them out. This recipe made 6 burgers. When you’re about to cook I like to flatten them out by hand (you’ll see in the video).

To cook, you can bbq, pan fry, or bake these burgers it’s totally your call. It was raining on the day I made these so I stayed inside lol but bbq would be so fun for the long weekend.

Don’t forget to toast your buns either in the frying pan or on the grill. I used these yummy Gold Buns from Dempster’s®.

ENJOY!
