ATLANTIC CANADA LOCAL GIFT GUIDE

Another day another gift guide!! I’m so happy y’all are enjoying our gift guides they certainly are a labor of love, but knowing that they are helping so many of you makes me so happy!

While I do try to inject local items where ever I can into all my gift guides I did want to list a few extra ones to give you some extra ideas because we have some amazing folks doing amazing things right here in our backyards! Below are a few of my favorite gifts I’ve gifted year after year from local businesses and vendors from Atlantic Canada.

LOCAL GIFT GUIDE

MY HOME APPAREL

I love the My Home Apparel Tartan scarves , warm, cozy, and a reminder of home to boot. Us Atlantic Canadians are known for our pride, and it’s actually something I love about us!

I’ve purchased a few of these scarves over the years, they also have a Cape Breton one which is so pretty!!

I got this scarf for my sister who currently lives in Edmonton, and we’re all super sad she’s not able to make it home for the holidays because of her work, but at least home can come to her!

I’ve already purchased the Cape Breton one for her, but now she can also switch it up and opt for this beautiful blue Nova Scotia Tartan too! I just think it’ll look amazing on her and I can’t wait to see all the selfies!! Not to mention it’s cold in Edmonton so it’s practical to boot LOL.

NEWFOUNDLAND CHOCOLATE COMPANY

From their Lighthouse Series, to the Jigs n’ Reels Series, The Newfoundland Chocolate Company loves to incorporate pieces of East Coast heritage into all the naming and branding of everything they make! Whether it be the incredible sights and sounds of our beautiful Atlantic provinces or funny sayings we’ve all come to know and love! I’m just obsessed with this company and their sense of humor. Anything from the Newfoundland Chocolate Company would make a great gift because it’s delicious but also super personal too!

Our chocolates are all handcrafted, hand decorated and hand packaged in our chocolate-coated building on Duckworth Street in beautiful downtown St. John’s, Newfoundland on the easternmost tip of North America. Each delicious treat is designed to promote the stories, culture, and language of this unique place.

Each chocolate is artisan crafted using pure, simple and delicious local ingredients by our talented chocolatiers, all without any artificial flavours or preservatives.

They even offer chocolate making classes!!  Learn more by visiting their website > Newfoundlandchocolatecompany.com.

SALT WRECK PRINTS

Recently I added this beautiful Salt Wreck Cape Breton Print to our newly renovated bathroom. Both Travis and I are from Cape Breton (so funny because we met here), and because both our families still live there we both still feel very connected to the beautiful island of Cape Breton! I swear I love, and appreciate it more and more as I get older. Salt Wreck has so many beautiful prints (and nation wide) to suit your style, and your taste it’s definitely worth a browse of their website.

Whether your purchasing for your home or as a gift for someone else you won’t be disappointed with these prints I was so impressed with the quality of the print and paper it’s printed on.

HOUSE OF MODA

If y’all follow me on social media you know I’ve been collaborating with boss Babe Ozlem of House of Moda to showcase some of her AMAZING handmade designs.

House of Moda was created by designer Ozlem Metinoglu Manness with a vision to add just the right amount of sparkle to your outfit. Each piece is designed and handcrafted to meet our quality standards using a combination of Swarovski crystals and semi-precious stones. We are an independent jewelry business located on Spring Garden Rd in beautiful downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia. Our boutique truly is our home away from home.

What I love about House of Moda is that you can find some really beautiful and unique pieces, but you can also take comfort in knowing she only gets a select amount of each style, so you don’t have to worry that someone else will show up at your holiday party wearing the exact same piece! If you’re local go visit her shop located in the heart of downtown on Spring Garden Road. She’s also fun to follow on social media (she’ll also let you know about sales and exclusive discounts so don’t miss out) you can find her @houseofmoda.

Not local to Halifax? No worries, shop House of Moda online here.

PEI COFFEE COMPANY

As seen on the Marilyn Denis 10 Days of Giveaway the PEI Coffee Company is a MUST try! With the cutest little packaging and branding you ever did see, and such clever instant coffee and tea it’s just TOO fun!! I’m obsessed with this product. And it’s actually SO delicious too.

PEI Coffee Company is proud to offer small batch PEI, hand crafted coffee and tea. Both the coffee and tea creating is artisanal as our PEI master roaster of 25 years, perfectly roasts each batch by instinct and our PEI tea sommelier and blender has created tea blends that are so pleasing.

We have special beans just for you. They come from a 2nd generation Montreal family of importers and roasters who have direct relationships with the farmers who grew your coffee beans. No big corporations involved; just small family businesses like our PEI Coffee Company. The coffee beans are organic, grown sustainably, support the Humaniterra Foundation and are exclusive to us!

My husband and I live in Charlottetown with our two young girls and two dogs. I created this business with the support of my husband, the bustling PEI business community and with the watchful eyes of our girls as they play “PEI Coffee Company” all the time 🙂

I’m so excited to be giving away a prize pack with PEI Coffee Company on my Instagram @shortpresents! Don’t miss it. For more information please visit the PEI Coffee Company website or click here.

SHOPPE JUJU

OMG these bralettes are SO comfortable. I seriously have no idea how Shoppe Juju does it! Usually lace is itchy or doesn’t stretch, but these pieces are anything but. I love them so so much and it makes me so happy to support someone local. PEI based, Julia makes bralettes, scrunchies, and sleep masks, so you know just the cutest stuff ever!

If you’re looking to up your undergarment game, but still want to be comfortable Shoppe Juju is for you. I mean whoever you’re gifting to haha.

You can find Julia’s shop on Etsy, or click here. As well her designs are available at Green Eye Designs, and Lost and Found Shop in Halifax.

Stuck on what to get the in laws? Your parents?? Your boss??

I love the idea of gifting beautiful pieces from Nova Scotian Crystal. Whether it’s stemware, barware, vases or even items for the office! You could even make it part of a tradition to slowly grow the collection. One of the things I love about Nova Scotian Crystal is (a) it’s local and (b) made my hand. I  have so much respect for this craft, but what’s fun is that they make a plethora of options in various patterns, so you really can work to collect them all to create a full set. The glasses featured here are a pair of coupe glasses in the Margaree Pattern, aren’t they just stunning?

Top it off your gift with a bottle of local wine (and always a crown pleaser) like Nova 7! 😉

Hope you enjoyed today’s local gift guide, and please when you’re purchasing your gifts this holiday season please consider a local vendor where ever possible. You have no idea how important it is to them, and remember you’re also supporting a dream! And there’s no better gift than that!!

xx
