THAT 70s SHIRT

Every summer there’s always one trend that takes the forefront, and this summer it’s all about the bell sleeve giving us all the 70s vibes in the best way possible.

If you feel like you’ve been seeing the bell sleeve everywhere it’s because you have! I know I’ve been rocking a similar look to this one most of the summer. And I’m mad at it.

FEATURED ITEMS

Top, c/o H&M (available in store, similar + lower price point online here)

Shorts, H&M (similar here)

Hat, Joe Fresh (similar here)

Flower Crown, Forever 21 (purchased in store, shop flower crowns here)

Bag, Aritzia

Shoes, Old Navy (old shop Old Navy Shoes here)

While this look is slightly more boho than my usual looks I think there’s something about the structure of the top, the eyelets, and the black and white combo that makes me feel like it’s more polished (and more my style).

Putting this look together I wasn’t sure if I wanted to wear a hat, or a flower crown, so I decided to wear both. I simply added my flower crown around the brim of my hat, and I’m kind of obsessed with out it turned out.

TIPS FOR ROCKING A BELL SLEEVE

Because you’re opting for volume on top you want to avoid volume on the bottom as not to lose you in your clothing.  Other great options for bottoms could be a fitted denim skirt, skinny or boot cut jeans or trousers.

Make sure they aren’t too long. You want to make sure there’s some space between your hands and the sleeve. This will help elongate your arms and avoid you from getting swallowed up in the sleeve.

Keep it simple, because the bell sleeve does add a bit of drama to your look you want to make sure you balance out the rest of the look, so perhaps you want to avoid a lot of prints etc.

Don’t be afraid to layer. While it’s likely a little too warm to wear a leather jacket over your sleeve, do play with layering your bell sleeve under slip dresses or tanks.

Last but not least have fun with it. There’s something about this style that makes you want to dance around and wave your arms. So if the shirt moves you, let it!

Hope you found today’s post helpful. Will you be rockin’ the bell sleeve trend?

Love that you paired this shirt with shorts. I bought a similar shirt this summer (but its a rose chiffon and no eyelets.) I love it so much and wear it with jean shorts!
