The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, there’s also rain, hail, and fog potentially all in one day; however, it wouldn’t be spring (or Halifax in general) without weather unpredictability. Despite this, there’s something about the longer days and slightly warmer temps that make me want to start fresh, and I can think of no better way to do that than giving my condo a really good sleeves-up-elbow-grease clean.
The trouble with this is that I have zero time to execute the kind of clean my condo so desperately needs. And to add insult to injury I’m not very good at asking for help. Truth be told I can be pretty stubborn that way, and even more so at admitting when I need it, but the thing is: I do. While blogging biz has been busier than ever (thank you universe) it also means that I’ve been working around the clock, and I have to admit my condo has suffered the consequence.
We are pretty tidy I mean we aren’t gross or anything. We live in the city so mice is always an issue, so we never leave things out, and I REALLY get overwhelmed by clutter. But there’s also a lot of things that are just not a huge priority to me, and I’ve kind of been operating on, it’s “good enough” lately.
Having grown up with a single mother we certainly never had anyone come clean our house growing up, not to mention my mother would likely clean the house before they came because she’d be too embarrassed to let anyone see her house anything less than perfect. Clearly, I did not inherit these traits.
It might seem silly to you, but I actually had no idea what a cleaner even cleaned. I wasn’t sure how to prepare for the staff of Maritime Cleaners, but turns out if they need something they will ask, and the dynamic duo (Maria and Delores) actually cleaned EVERYTHING! I didn’t know but I had the full meal deal booked, so the two lovely ladies scrubbed my kitchen top-to-down, they cleaned the cabinets (amazing), the wall behind the stove (gross I cook a lot), the stove, inside the oven (major yikes), and the fridge.
The ladies from Maritime Cleaners did such an amazing job I can honestly say it’s cleaner than when we moved in. My fridge and stove literally look brand new!
After the kitchen, they moved to the bathrooms (we have two), and I had to laugh when one of the women asked if we had a dog. No ma’am, that’s just me lol I shed like a dog haha.
While we are tidy I promise you they had their work cut out for them because my shower did NOT look this good when we moved in, and it’s not something I frequently am concerned about cleaning! The two ladies really went above and beyond, and it wasn’t an easy feat.
Because we have a pedestal sink in the bathroom which is where we both get ready the limited space is notoriously full of EV-ERY-THING! After the ladies got to it I’ve never seen it so clean, and there’s something about seeing it like this that makes you want to keep it this way.
The staff from Maritime Cleaners cleaned the floors hauled my couches out and vacuumed behind them, they cleaned my windows (not easy to do they are huge), and dusted everything —even my copious bottles of fragrances and the shelf!
The two women were so adorable I truly enjoyed having them here. I’m sure they feel differently lol since they were working so hard, but I made sure to make them some coffee and we had a little chat here in there to break up the monotony.
While I wish I could tell you I was curled up on the couch with a book, or watching tv or something relaxing I actually used the much needed time to clean out my inbox of over 5000 messages, catch up on blog emails, edit photos, and I wrote not one but three blog posts. I felt so productive knowing that we were all tag teaming my life together (work and personal lol).
I tried my best to just stay out of their way, so I poured a cup of coffee and parked myself around my condo where ever I could, and hauled my computer with me! They were so sweet and hardly troubled me at all unless it was to move something big or to ask what else I wanted them to do. Before leaving Maria also asked if there was anything else I wanted them to do, but I looked about and I couldn’t think of a single thing. They did so much, and they did it so well I couldn’t think of a negative thing to say. Having them here was such a big help I had to give them the biggest hug ever; I was just so apprecititve.

And more than giving me a squeaky clean appartment you gave me the gift of time which when you work as much as I do extra time is the most precious gift, and the one thing I’ll never get more of. Kayla, my mom is the same! And I too did not inherit her traits. I may need to get over myself and call a cleaner. But don’t tell my mom. Oh my gosh! She would be so mad at me. Great post-R.
We hired a cleaner last year and it was the BEST decision. She comes every second week for three hours, which is the perfect amount to stay on top of the bathrooms and do the floors, which were always the biggest pain for us.
I totally feel you with this post! I held back on accepting help for the longest time but finally caved and hired someone. That was about 5 years ago and I’ve never once considered going back! I simply could not live without the woman who keeps my house clean and organized.
