TREND ALERT: BOLD STRIPES

While there are numerous trends for spring this season (read more here) one of my favorites has got to be bold stripes. I mean I am an East Coast girl so anything remotely nautical floats my boat, but there’s something so chic about this bold graphic.

Winners, Marshalls, TJX
When Marshalls approached me to style a look using some of their spring stock for their #lovemarshalls instagram campaign (a) I was PUMPED to be included with some major blogging babes, and (B) I adore Marshalls, and the trill of the hunt. I mean you have to be in the right head space, and you basically need to go in there when you have no business spending money on clothes because I promise you this is when you’ll hit the jackpot.
So I set off to make my discovery, and I’m so happy with my choices I mean this skirt, and this bag? Match made in heaven am I right? I figured I’d add a pop of color with my shoe, and keep the rest pretty simple. What do you think of the bold stripe trend blog reader, do you think it’s something you’d be willing to try?
I know a lot of folks have reservations about stripes, but bold stripes actually are probably the most forgiving especially if it’s the right fabric. This skirt (only $29 BTW) contains some stretch, but it’s also weighted enough that it falls away from the body really nicely. Not to mention a-line skirts basically look great on anyone. It’s one of the very few universal pieces, and I promise if you give it a try it could totally work for you. If you’re petite some hemming might be in order or you could wear it higher on your waist to elongate your legs, but otherwise GO FOR IT!
There are endless possibilities with this skirt. I mean you could totally mix another print in there maybe like a little polka dot action, maybe some smaller stripes, get really crazy and go for a floral? Just be sure to keep the other prints smaller than this one (shouldn’t be too difficult), and in the same color family. And don’t be afraid to experiment with different color shoes, bags or jackets you really can have a lot of fun with this one!

Don’t forget if you’re interested in learning about other trends for Spring be sure to check out my lastest article for Huffington Post by clicking here.
