What’s Playing Wednesday?

So this isn’t a song, it’s a movie trailer, but I just had to share it with you blog readers. Ranked very highly reccomended on IMDB, and plenty of buzz surrounding this movie, it certainly sparked our interest.
This film is the true story of Elle editor Jean-Dominique Bauby who suffers a stroke and has to live with an almost totally paralyzed body; only his left eye isn’t paralyzed (IMDB).

Stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off. Without oxygen-rich blood, brain cells begin to die. If the blood supply is not restored, the affected part of the brain dies, causing disability or death (Heart and Stroke Foundation).

Did you know that there are over 50,000 strokes in Canada each year. That’s one stroke every 10 minutes. Heart and Stroke Foundation suggests that of every 100 people who have a stroke:

  • 15 die (15%)
  • 10 recover completely (10%)
  • 25 recover with a minor impairment or disability (25%)
  • 40 are left with a moderate to severe impairment (40%)
  • 10 are so severely disabled they require long-term care (10%)

These are some unbelievable odds. It’s amazing in life what people can be faced with, but it is even more amazing how they overcome it.
I am SO looking forward to seeing this film. For more inforamtion about Heart Disease and Stroke prevention and risks pop over to their website Heart and Stroke.com
