12 Days of Sparkle

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

This holiday season I’ve decided to implement a Twelve Days of Sparkle Dress CodeFor 12 days there must be at least ONE sparkle item, or I just won’t be able to go on.

The photo above was taken while picking up a package at the Post Office that is so conveniently located in Lawton’s Drug Store. I couldn’t help myself, I just felt compelled to try on every single piece of sparkle jewelry they had in the store (all at the same time). Kind of like Joey on Friends when he puts on ALL of Chandler’s clothes and does lunges.

Now I wouldn’t advise that you put on everything that sparkles all at once because that would be over kill even for Joan Rivers, but there is so shame in a wearing sparkle every day for 12 days over the holidays!

Here are Twelve Items for Twelve Days of Sparkle:

(1) Sparkle Shorts

Pair these bad boys with some black tights, and heels and you’re ready for the disco. Keep everything else simple, and let the shorts be the focal.

(2) Sparkle Dress

Again go with black tights, and black pumps. Keep the hair and makeup simple here. I would accessorize this one too much. Maybe a necklace or some bangles, but that’s about it.

(3) Sparkle Makeup

I love this gold sparkle eye shadow from Bella Piere, I almost always wear it when I am going out. I sweep this colour across the upper lid (only to the crease). Then I apply a darker greyish shade (Lancome: “Guest List” ) in the crease with a window wiper motion. Then I use a white shadow for right under my eye on the bottom to make my eyes pop. Then I top with either falsies, or loads of mascara

(4) Sparkle Dress

You can always benefit from having an extra sparkle dress hanging around. Who knows when you’ll find out you need to be somewhere fabulous ASAP. This dress is always ready, and always fabulous. Every time I wear it I get SO many compliments, so it’s an instant ego boost.

(5) Sparkle Nail Polish

I know you are thinking that sparkle nail polish is for grade school, but it all depends on how you (a) accessorize it and (b) how well you apply it. I love this gradual frosted look created by this adorable little lady at willworkformakeup.blogspot.com check out this link as she breaks it down for you step-by-step.

(6) Swarovski Sparkle Earrings

I love these little disco ball earrings, and the array of colours they come in. I have the silver ones, and they are so great to take your outfit up a notch without adding too much bling.

(7) Sparkle Skirt

I love this skirt worn by one of my favourite fashion bloggers Andy Torres. She does well here to break up the drama in the skirt with a simple grey shirt with solid black tights and heels: perfect for day. For night you could simply switch to a solid tank and ditch the jacket and you would be ready to go out for a night on the town. http://www.stylescrapbook.com/2011/12/look-of-day-day.html

(8) Sparkle Accessories

Costume jewelry had got to be the most inexpensive way to perk up an outfit, at under 20$ you can put together some pretty great outfit just by having a few statement pieces.

The key here is to not look trashy, so stick to a theme and try not to over do it. I like layered bracelets, or necklaces, but never both. You don’t want to look like a Christmas tree, as my great Grandmother used to say. You just want to look nice next to it :).

The last photo here where I am wearing a blonde wig was from Halloween a few years ago, now I wouldn’t suggest you wear this scarf around your head over the holidays around your neck of as a belt looks pretty sharp.
(9) Sequin Tank

I love a sparkle tank with blazer or a cardigan. I saw one a Calvin Klein one at Winners a while back, and I’ve been kicking myself ever since for not buying it. Oh well my intentions were good I was focusing on buying Christmas presents for other people, and not spending money on myself.

The rules for this one is that same for the skirt. Let the shirt be the focus, and use solid prints for everything else. This shirt would love divine with a burgundy or hunter green cardigan or blazer. Just sayin’

(10) Sequin Blazer

A sequin blazer or jacket is one of the most versatile ways to take your outfit from 0-60. On top of a little black dress or paired with dress pants or dark skinnies this jacket is a win. I would never be brave enough to sport the jacket sans shirt underneath, but I can appreciate the drama. For day I pair these jackets with a slouchy t-shirt, like white or grey, and not night I’d jazz it up with a LBD.

(11) Sparkle Shoes

Christian Louboutin Glitter Platform Pumps- to die for, and perfect for night time.

Practical and stylish, Toms sequin slippers fit the bill. You can always feel good about giving this holiday season because for every pair or Toms shoes that are purchased there is another given away to people in need.

(12) Sparkle Your Pearly Whites

To enhance those pearly whites try a blue tinted red lipstick: Check out this link for application tips http://shortpresents.blogspot.com/2011/11/perfect-red-lipstick.html

Dazzle everyone with your great smile, and simply enjoy the time with your loved ones. Laugh until you cry and cry until you laugh. Eat plenty of delicious foods, and be mindful of everything you are grateful for this season, and everything to come in the new year. Your best accessory is your personality, and what better way to showcase that then with a big beautiful smile.

Happy Holidays Fashionistas!! Hope Santa is good to you
much love

Oh this is such a fabulous post – you look so lovely in that photo looking over your shoulder in the black sparkly dress! I agree – lots of sparkle over the holiday season but not too much please. I'm doing a lot of glitter and sequins with my accessories this Christmas (but I do have a very glittery dress from FCUK that will get some wear next week!)
