Seeing Spots

No I haven’t been staring into the sun, or blinding my self with my camera flash, but lately I’ve been seeing spots EVERYWHERE! From cozy cardigans to beautiful blouses; it seems spots are in. I paired this very vintage inspired shirt with polka dot detailing around the neck with a black pleated skirt, black opaque tights, and black suede wedge boots. You might be thinking that is an awful lot of black clothing, but when you play around with different textures it helps to break it up. See this related article from local Halifax Blogger Haute Halifax.

I love polka dots, but just be careful to make sure your dots are balanced. You don’t want really huge dots all over the body especially near the bust line. The trick with polka dots is to break it up, so use some solid pieces to help everything balance.  I love these dresses from http://www.laquaintrelle.ca/

Simply add some solid coloured cardigans, blazers, over-sized grandpa sweaters, tights, boots, scarves, and hats to these lovely dresses, and you’ll be right on trend.

Mixing textures is really good advice for someone like me who wears an awful lot of black – it really does keep the outfit interesting. Now let's talk polka dots. I am also seeing this style in a lot of the high street stores in NYC right now. I like my spots 50s style, with a dress and a super flared skirt, but I'm a big fan of this top too, and the collar section with the little bow is very cute.

I'm also quite interested in star prints right now – if you see any star prints that you think I might like, please send 'em over on Twitter!
